Doe Deere’s Unicorn Hair Trend Is Now Brunette-Friendly

The unicorn hair trend was once reserved almost exclusively for the fair-haired among us, but Lime Crime is about to change all of that. This leading beauty company has already won scores of converts with its popular Unicorn Hair Collection, but brand founder Doe Deere recently announced that the line would be unveiling four brand new unicorn shades designed specifically for darker-haired women who are seeking that vibrant color scheme.

Recently revealed on Instagram, the new shades are Chestnut (maroon), Squid (purple), Charcoal (gray), and Sea Witch (mermaid green). These colors can be combined in numerous ways to form the types of gorgeous, eye-catching gradients that define the unicorn look. No official release date has been announced, but the new shades are already being promoted on the Lime Crime website along with a “Coming Soon” banner. Anyone seeking updates on the new Unicorn line can visit the Lime Crime website and click the “Notify Me” link on any product page. Emails will be sent out as soon as the new colors are available for purchase.

The new Unicorn products are the brainchild of company founder Doe Deere, who spent three years designing and perfecting shades of unicorn hair color that would suit darker-haired women without damaging or permanently altering the hair itself. Since the products are made with deposit-only dyes that contain no bleach or ammonia, they can be applied liberally without harming the scalp or hair follicles. They fade gradually and can be touched up with additional product or mixed with new colors.

Like all Lime Crime products, the new unicorn shades are completely vegan and cruelty-free, and they’re easy for anyone to apply at home. The process is as simple as massaging the product into the hair, waiting 30 minutes, and then rinsing.

Lime Crime’s commitment to ethical products and easy-to-apply formulas has made the brand a cult favorite in recent years. Frustrated by the questionable quality and poor ethical standards of so many commercial cosmetics, Doe Deere started the company in 2008. Already a model and fashion designer, Deere was passionate about providing products that raise the bar for style in the 21st century. She now serves as the CEO for Lime Crime, and she personally tests all of the products on herself to ensure that everything bearing the Lime Crime name lives up to her exacting standards.

If you search “unicorn hair” in any search engine, you’ll find a long list of prominent Lime Crime links. That’s because Doe Deere’s company made the trend popular. Deere once said in an interview, “I think that unconventional hair color should be more accepted in schools and in the workplace…Having purple, pink or blue hair is not a big deal in the workplace – and it’s definitely something we encourage at Lime Crime.”

In fact, it’s easy to make the case that unicorn hair is the heart and soul of the Lime Crime brand. Doe Deere is even introduced on the company’s website as “the Unicorn Queen,” and many of her own social media images showcase her colorful use of the emerging trend. Her favorite quote is, “Always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn – then always be a unicorn!” Clearly, she’s all in when it comes to the unicorn trend.

The Unicorn Hair line started with such popular products as Gargoyle, Bunny, Blue Smoke, Anime, Bubblegum Rose, and Aesthetic. There are now nearly 30 shades available, and Deere and her team continue to develop new varieties all the time.

For those still unfamiliar with the term, unicorn hair is a style that blends colors like blue, green, and purple in bold yet effortless ways. Similar to mermaid hair, it leans heavily on the cool end of the color spectrum and uses underlights to create the illusion of cascading colors that fall from root to tip. The trend has been showcased by such A-list celebs as Katy Perry and Kylie Jenner, and it continues to gain new converts every day.

What is perhaps more noteworthy than the shades themselves is Deere’s own story. If you check out her popular Instagram profile, you’ll notice that she truly walks the walk when it comes to her products. She doesn’t just sell cosmetics; she eats, lives, and breathes them. She’s absolutely passionate about them, and this passion remains at the core of her success as an entrepreneur and CEO.

“Ideas are like children,” she once quipped in an interview. “You have to raise them and help them along to success.” Her company started as nothing more than an idea, but it has gradually grown into one of the most successful cosmetics brands on the internet. She was even selected as one of the Top Inspiring Female Entrepreneurs by Self-Made.

So what’s the secret to her success? According to Doe Deere, she actively listens to her staff, her customers, and even her critics. She understands that there’s always more to be learned, and she applies this to every aspect of her business. She is, first and foremost, committed to developing products that excite people, and the success of her Unicorn line proves that she’s doing just that.

Perhaps the central philosophy of Lime Crime can be summed up in another Doe Deere quote. “Embrace your weirdness! I believe that we are happiest when we can be ourselves.” The Unicorn Hair Collection is bold, it’s ostentatious, and some might even call it weird. But that’s what makes it so appealing.
