How to Beat the Holiday Binge Cycle

During the holidays, it’s not uncommon to put on some weight. This is due to the fact that so many of us overeat on the holidays and the subsequent days as well. This can be a real issue, as it only leads to problems later on and a lot of weight to lose come New Years Day. Unfortunately, one of the main issues that a lot of people have when it concerns their weight is that they get caught up in what’s known as a binge cycle. You make excuses for why you should overeat and you think it’s okay to overeat on days that surround the holidays. This is where the real weight gain happens, as you’re overeating more than just one or two days out of the year.

Think about it this way, the holidays only consist of a few key days. If you celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving, these are only two days and if you overeat for these two days, it’s easy to get back on track. The problem comes when your Christmas binge lasts the whole month of December as an excuse to celebrate the holidays. One way to beat the binge is for you to realize that eating isn’t always a form of celebration. There are many ways for you to celebrate without getting food involved in the mix. You can spend time with your family, go shopping for presents and volunteer. You don’t have to overeat every single day of the month just because Christmas is coming.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you want to feel and look your best for the holidays. When you overeat, you tend to feel and look bloated, and your clothes may not fit as well anymore. This is a problem when you’re going to be seeing people you haven’t seen in awhile and it can be a real issue for you. This is why it is so important that you make the decision to watch what you eat and ensure that you don’t make the whole month a huge binge fest. By watching what you eat and really controlling portions, you can still enjoy the holidays without it becoming a problem for your waistline. In fact, you might find that you enjoy the holidays more because you won’t feel so guilty over all of the weight that you have gained from the few days that you celebrated.
